About HOUOU

Japanese stage tradition directed for international audiences.

HOUOU is led by Japanese performing artist, choreographer and creative director Eijuro Gojo, also known as Megane Ito.

The artistic lead

From performer to integrated production lead.

Gojo began Japanese dance at age three. His practice developed from classical training into international performance, choreography, stage direction and the creation of contemporary Japanese cultural productions.

As Megane Ito, he also works as a music and visual creator, developing sound and cinematic imagery alongside his live performance and stage direction.

For HOUOU, the performer is not separated from the production concept. Movement, casting, music, costume, stage rhythm and visual atmosphere are developed around one central idea, then adjusted to the venue, audience and cultural context.

HOUOU can supply a focused live act or develop a wider production structure with multiple performers and creative disciplines. The exact cast, repertoire and technical scope are proposed only after the event brief is reviewed.

“Tradition remains credible when its form, scale and rhythm are carefully translated for the audience in front of it.”

How HOUOU works

Three principles behind every international project.

Cultural clarity

The origin and meaning of the performance remain legible, while the presentation is shaped for the event and its audience.

One creative direction

Performance, choreography, music and visual planning follow one production concept instead of being assembled as unrelated elements.

Scalable delivery

The cast and production model are designed around the venue, schedule, technical conditions and required level of impact.

Creative scope

Live performance is the centre. Direction, music and visuals extend the stage world.

HOUOU combines disciplines only when they strengthen the production. AI-assisted visual development and LED planning are identified as concept or capability work unless a completed client commission can be documented.

Performance & Choreography

Japanese dance, Renjishi, Orochi, samurai performance, Oiran / Geisha presentation and ensemble staging.

Creative & Stage Direction

Concept, narrative structure, casting, rehearsal direction, stage composition and coordination with local production teams.

Music & Cinematic Visuals

Original music, sound-world development, cinematic imagery and previsualisation created around the live performance.

International Production

On-site delivery and off-site preparation of performers, repertoire and stage material for overseas engagements.
